We are open and looking forward to seeing you!

Dear friends, patients and family,

I hope this email update finds you and your family healthy. We are in the process of reopening the office and want to update you with some of the changes we are implementing to keep everyone safe.

We are asking patients to call us when you arrive in the parking lot and we will let you know if we are ready for you to enter the building. In the vestibule you will be asked some screening questions regarding COVID and your temperature will be taken. The same screening protocol is done on all of our staff daily. We are also asking that family members stay in the car unless the patient requires their assistance. You will be asked to wear a mask or if you don’t have a mask a cloth covering over your mouth and nose. For everyone’s safety, we are trying to minimize talking when we are less than 6 feet away from each other in our examination rooms, especially during the slit lamp examination. The rooms and testing equipment will be thoroughly disinfected between every patient.

In order to increase safety for both you and our staff, we are also working on implementing hybrid telemedicine visits for certain visit types including cataract evaluations and LASIK consults. A technician will call you at least 1 day before your visit to review your medical history over the phone. In the office, examinations and testing that cannot be done virtually will be performed by me and my technical staff. A scheduled video telemedicine visit will follow at which time the discussion of your options for surgery will take place with me. The advantage of this approach is that we will be able to spend as much time as needed with your family members present to discuss the proposed procedure. These visits can be done with both audio and video on doxy.me/drakler. A computer, tablet or smartphone may all be used to access the site. If you do not have access to the above, a telephone consultation can be arranged as well.

We at Akler Eye Center look forward to taking care of all of your eye care needs as we navigate this “new normal” together.
