Michelle Akler, M.D.
Dr. Michelle Akler is a board certified ophthalmologist in Detroit who has been in practice for 21 years .
Dr. Akler is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. She actively participates in the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the local chapter of the Women in Ophthalmology. She served on the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons EyeConnect Committee for 5 years and presents and teaches at national meetings. She is a founding member of EyeConnect International, a peer-to-peer ophthalmology discussion group from around the world that promotes innovative, quality patient care.

When she is taking a break from her professional responsibilities, Dr. Michelle Akler likes to spend time with her husband, Jonathon State MD and their two sons. She recently became certified as a Level 1 Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CITY) and is passionate about sharing her love of yoga and ergonomics as it applies to ophthalmologists.
Dr. Akler is delighted to be practicing in Dearborn, Michigan and Sterling Heights, Michigan. She is on staff at the Dearborn Surgery Center, Southgate Surgery Center, Beaumont Hospital Southshore Campus in Trenton, and at the Michigan Outpatient Surgery Center in Fraser.

Dr. Akler on a medical mission in Kenya
Dr. Akler has completed two medical mission trips to Migori, Kenya
where she had the opportunity to provide medical and surgical
ophthalmology services to the local population. Their group, Kenya
Relief Team 15, sees over 500 patients and performs over 100 surgeries
over 3 days.
