The All Laser LASIK Prodecure
EX500 Excimer Laser

LASIK vision correction is performed by creating a partial thickness flap of corneal tissue that is hinged. Once the flap is created, it is folded back and the excimer laser is used to gently reshape the cornea to correct the vision. Following the laser, the flap is relocated over the treated area where it heals overnight. The procedure is quick and there is very little discomfort afterwards. The majority of patients are comfortable enough with their vision the following day to drive themselves to their postoperative appointment.

There are two methods of creating the corneal flap. One involves using a mechanical device called a microkeratome. The second method involves using a femtosecond laser to create tiny bubbles in the corenal tissue that separate the tissue. This blade-free approach allows a very precise flap depth to be created and allows patients to undergo LASIK vision correction that may not have been candidates in the past.
