“The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission.”
-John F. Kennedy
Over this holiday weekend, I am proud to celebrate two great countries, Canada, the country of my birth, and America, my adopted home. The experience of living in both countries has shaped who I am as a physician, mother, and citizen of this world.
The words of John F. Kennedy inspire on many levels. The men and women who serve this country pay the price for our freedom every day and we keep in our thoughts that their sacrifice permits us the simple joys of living free. In my professional and personal life, I will continue to live by the mantra of never surrendering and always doing what is right even when it is not what is easy.
On this 4th of July, enjoy your family and friends, and remember eye safety – stay a good distance away when lighting fireworks, shield your eyes from the sun, and wear protective eyewear at both work and play!
